About Cool Cities

Get Involved with Cool Cities

Sierra Club's Cool Cities Program, led by volunteers around the country, is a collaboration between community members, organizations, businesses, and local leaders to implement clean energy solutions that save money, create jobs, and help curb global warming. Since 2005, over 1000 city and county leaders have made a commitment to cut their community's carbon footprint. With these commitments comes a challenge and opportunity — and we can help you turn your community into a "cool" community.

  • Sign up for the Cool Cities newsletter to receive information on best practices, trainings and resources to help you make your community "cool".
  • Visit the forum and resources pages to learn more about best practices in energy efficiency, renewable energy, and other solutions.
  • Follow us on twitter to get the most up-to-date information.

Whether you live in Los Angeles, CA or Columbia, MO, buildings are a significant source global warming pollution. The operation, heating and cooling of buildings contribute nearly 40 percent of global warming emissions and consume over 70 percent of electricity in the United States. We believe that investing in energy-efficient green buildings is the opportunity to rebuild our communities and recharge our economy. Together we can harness the energy savings, emissions reduction, and job creation potential from energy efficiency and green buildings!

Sierra Club's Cool Cities Program and the US Green Building Council are joining forces to bring green buildings to Cool Cities around the country. Click here to learn more about how you can get involved in the "Green Buildings for Cool Cities" project in your community.
